U8 FAQS

What is the format for the U8 teams? With the U8 teams we have the players play 4 v 4 with no Goal Keepers, games are played on smaller fields using smaller goals. Each games consists of 4 x 10 minute quaters. With no scores or results being recorded.

Why use this format? At this age the most important thing is that players are developing basic technical skills such as passing, recieving and dribbling, whilst getting a basic understanding for the team concepts of the game. The 4v4 game is perfect for this as it allows players to have maximum touches on the ball to develop their skills but it also introduces basic team concepts such as spreading out understanding when to pass and when to dribble.

Who else uses this format? All the major professional soccer academies use this format with their younger teams, as it is proven to provide the best results for each player. These clubs include Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid plus all the majority of other major soccer clubs around the world.

What are the main areas you will be developing at this age? The main focus is maximizing the amount of touches all players get on the ball to develop their individual skills. We will work a great deal on individual moves, fakes and technical skills such as passing and recieving the ball, in a fun yet challenging environment which is proven to dramatically develop skills.

How often do the U8's train? Typically the U8 academy teams train twice per week for one hour each session.

Where are the training sessions held? All training sessions take place at Treelake Village Park, Granite Bay.

How long does the season run for? The season is split into two parts, we have the Spring season (April thru June) and then the Fall Season (August thru October).

Do players need to do both Spring and Fall seasons? No players can sign up for one of the seasons or both of the seasons.

How often do the teams play games? Each month we host a match day, where other local teams and players are invited to Treelake to play a jamboree where the teams play several games.

What do the teams do in the winter? During the winter we run an indoor training academy using the game of FUTSAL. This is open to all players in the area not just the Academy players. This consists of monthly sessions running from December thru March.
